Pizza on a tortilla, sounds like fun right? It sure is a winner with kids as they can make it all on their own and teenagers can cook them without help too. NO need to bake in the oven, all you need is a hot air machine to get the cheese melted and the crust crispy. (affiliate links present)

Air Fryer Tortilla Pizzas

We have shared tons of air fryer meals on our site over the years, this may be my kids’ favorite one. No need for yeast or a homemade dough of any kind with this one friends. That is right, they are already made, cooked, and ready to go for you. I mean you could make those yourself too, we have.

By using our air fryer tortillas recipe they are easy too but typically we take them right out of the package and dress them up. When my girls were younger we made these in the oven. Sometimes we would use the old fashioned English Muffin variety but one day this is all we had as far as a base went, what a surprise!

If you love extra crispy food and quick recipes, here are some resources to start with:

The interior of the air fryer basket is empty and features a mesh design, perfect for cooking your favorite dishes like bang bang shrimp. The edge of the air fryer has a latch mechanism for securing the basket.

Ninja Foodi Tortilla Pizza

Honestly I didn’t think it would work well at all but thought it would be worth a shot since that was all I had on hand at the time. Then my Ninja Foodi was only a dream. To be able to bake ’til crispy right on the countertop without heating up my entire house is fantastic. Especially during the summertime it’s a must have.

So you are going to use all the same toppings as you would if you were making homemade pizza dough instead. You can find pizza sauce at the store but honestly it is pretty identical to spaghettii sauce so I use either one. Mozzarella cheese is the most common one, and I have found a dairy free variety for my husband recently too. Then you add;

Ingredients

  • 1 Tortilla each
  • Pepperoni
  • Shredded parmesan cheese added with your mozzarella
  • Sliced olives
  • Diced bell peppers
  • Mushrooms
  • Pineapple tidbits and Canadian bacon
  • Crumbled precooked sausage

The list goes on and on of course, load it up but keep the very edges vacant so it doesn’t leak over the sides. Crushed red pepper flakes can be used for some heat if you like them spicy. I have also sprinkled on a bit of dry Sriracha which works well for that. My kids just want it mild so I haven’t experimented beyond those.

How to Make a Tortilla Pizza

You just make as you normally would with dough, except with the flatbread on the bottom. You could do the same thing on a baking sheet in the oven at the same temp but it will take at least twice as long. In a toaster oven, set to the same heat level as well. With those the tray is quite narrow so it will tend to fold over and look more like a taco though.

You can air fry these or make on the stove instead in a skillet. Either way we prefer flour tortillas that are the “regular” size, not for tacos or burritos. Depending on the size of your basket you could fit 2 small taco sizes but you can’t fit many toppings with those. Corn tortillas just don’t have the right texture. Air fryer naan would be another alternative.

How to Cook Pizza on a Tortilla in Air Fryer

  • Preheat air fryer to 350 degrees F for 5 minutes.
  • Open basket and lay tortilla flat inside basket.
  • Spoon sauce on top and spread out leaving 1″ clean around the edges.
  • Sprinkle on cheese and add toppings.
  • Close basket and cook for 4-5 minutes or until cheese is melted and edges are very lightly browned.
  • Use a spatula to lift it out and on to a plate.
  • Add another since you will only be able to make 1 at a time.

On stovetop you can do the same thing inside a frying pan or cast iron skillet. Add 1 tsp of olive oil inside over medium heat until shredded mozzarella melts. The biggest negative to this for me is the top won’t get browned and crispy as in the air fryer basket. Still quick and easy but a different texture.

How to Make Mini Tortilla Pizzas

If you want to make these smaller you can use a cookie cutter to make about 3 smaller circles out of 1 larger one. More favorite Ninja air fryer recipes my kids love. Just cut the timing by a minute or two since smaller they would be made the same way.

There is another fun way to serve these which is a bit less messy. Kinda’ like frozen pizza egg rolls in air fryer, you can cook as directed, but 1 minute less and then roll it up like a taquito in a sense. Then it can easily be picked up and eaten without slicing or the cheese dripping off.

If you do have leftovers you can save them but the texture will be different the next day. Just cool and store them wrapped in foil and into the fridge. Reheat Pizza in Toaster Oven is the best option or in your microwave for just 45 seconds or so. You could pop them back into your fryer basket for a few minutes if you want to crisp them back up too.
