Our slow cooker honey mustard pork roast turns out so good! With just 5 ingredients you can dump it all in in the morning and it will be so tender you can make shredded pork sliders with it for dinner.

What is the best liquid to slow cook pork in? One with a TON of flavor so your meat can soak it up and give it a wow flavor when it is so tender you can shred it with two forks like you see here. This is just one of our easy cheap Crockpot meals my kids ask me to make all the time.

Ok so if you have been following my blog for any length of time you know we buy 1/2 of a pig every year from a local farmer. That means we have ALL the cuts and I am constantly trying to come up with new meals to make with each one.

I had this bone-in pork roast left and instead of making my good ol’ Slow Cooker Pork Roast Onion Soup Mix recipe I decided to tweak it a bit to add a honey mustard sauce!! OMG did it turn out so good, everyone agreed.

Ingredient Notes

To make the sauce I wanted I just whisked together dijon mustard with some honey but wanted to thin it out a bit and allow for more liquid to coat everything so I added broth. You could use chicken or beef, I use what I have on hand friends.

To give it more of a whop of flavor, what do I always love to add but French’s onion soup mix packets. Makes things a lot easier and the taste is always out of this world.

You are going to want a 3 pound pork roast (or about that weight). I prefer boneless but that isn’t what I had this time so instead I cut it in half before cooking it in order to allow it to break down within the time allotted.

Can you use a frozen pork roast?

I would use our frozen roast in slow cooker instructions for that. In this case you would need to cook on high. With the sugars in this sauce I would pour it on top the last 2 hours so it doesn’t burn, but could do it this way if you forgot to defrost it!

Could you add potatoes?

You could. Keep in mind that large chunks of meat like this need a good 8+ hours to break down in order to shred them. With that said you would need to keep the taters large.

Like if I were to add a few I would poke medium size russets or large red potatoes and just set on the sides. They will get rather soft but yes a good addition and option if you want vegetables with this.

How Long to Cook Honey Mustard Pork Roast in Slow Cooker

I suggest using the low setting with big cuts like this one that need a long time to break down the connective tissues. Depending on the thickness of your piece you are looking at 8-10 hours to get to the point where you can easily shred it with two forks and make it look like you see here below.

Can you cook it on high?

I do not recommend rushing things in this case. Not only does the outside layer of the meat get more dry by the time the center can get tender but in this case the sauce may burn. Since there is honey (sugar) in it you run the chance of it getting too hot too fast especially where it touches the sides of the pot so I wouldn’t.

How do you know when it is done?

Shredded pork is all about the texture. You want it soft enough where you can use tongs to squeeze and it just pulls apart easily. If it takes any effort to separate the chunks from one another it needs more time. Give it another 30 minutes and test again.

How to Serve Honey Mustard Shredded Pork

I bought a package of pretzel slider buns for this!! I thought since mustard and pretzels go so well together that would be good and it was a real hit. For a high protein choice you could serve as is with a side of vegetables or over a bed of rice would be another idea.
