This 4 ingredient pie crust has been so popular with our upside down cherry pie that we thought we’d share it again. I wanted to show you how easy just the crust is and that you can use it with any flavor you like. Blueberry, cherry and apple are great too. (affiliate links present, originally published 10/22)

Literally this takes 5 minutes to prepare. If you are in need of a dairy free pie crust I make it that way too (so my husband can enjoy it). Using almond milk works great. I have made this for years. When I am just craving something sweet but have little to no energy to bake, I make a batch of this!

Now that I have teenagers in the house they can almost make this with their eyes closed. I don’t know why I never thought about creating a post about this all these years ago but I’ve been busy. Like having 3 kids, moving 4 times in 4 years, and yes blogging full time let’s say I can be forgetful. 😉

Easiest Pie with Pie Filling

Let’s talk about all the different pie fillings shall we? Most times I will buy whatever is on sale. I’ve used store brands like you see here, name brands if they happen to be cheaper, it’s versatile. Comstock from Duncan Hines is a popular one out there with a ton of different varieties.

If I want to go all out during the summertime when I have a ton of apples on hand, I will make Instant Pot apple pie filling. Let me tell you that it is super simple and fresh is always best. Up to you entirely.

Pour Over Crust

There are really just three things to do; preheat your oven, pour in filling, top with batter for pie crust. Okay so if you think a crust has to be on the bottom that is not true, and it’s better on top. Think about it, you’ll get it all bubbly and golden browned. The sugar crystalizes in a sense and creates this OMG texture too.

You can see how I did this with cherry and apple too, then I thought about how I really needed to get this written down in a post for all y’all. Our cans are typically 21 ounces full, you can make your own homemade blueberry pie filling too. If you had a bit more than that you would be fine too. Use a regular round pie pan and your best bet is to spray the inside so it slides out.

Do NOT expect this to cleanly slice, it won’t. Instead just use a serving spoon to scoop our your servings. If you use the measurements below you won’t find the need for more sweetness. You could cut down the sugar to as low as 1/2 cup or pair down to 3/4 even. I tried it several ways throughout the years and we like sweet.

We all love the crispy bits of sugar on the very top too with the full cup. I mean this isn’t a diet food y’all, it’s a quick easy dessert everyone in your house will love. I can almost guarantee that.

NOW you could use a version of this to make a savory dish too. We did this with our Bisquick chicken pot pie here. That is one of our 3 ingredient pie crust recipes that is great with chicken and veggies inside. Best thing to make a fun meal is to bake both!

For a savory pour over the top pie crust you would whisk together;

  1. 1 c bisquick
  2. 1 egg
  3. 1/2 c milk

For this sweeter one you need self rising flour, NOT all purpose! Milk or dairy free or lactose free milk, sugar and a bit of vanilla. I have a printable recipe card at the bottom of here. Choose your fruit of choice and get started like this;

4 Ingredient Pie Crust

  • Spray 9-inch pie plate with non stick spray, or rub insides with melted butter. Preheat oven to 350 F.
  • Pour can of pie filling in bottom of your pie dish. Mix together crust ingredients in a bowl and pour over the top. Smooth over so it is evenly distributed from edge to edge.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 350 F for 36 minutes, or until the top is a golden brown color. Set on cooling rack.

Use a serving spoon to scoop up individual servings and into bowls. Can drizzle with caramel sauce for added yum. If you want an easy crust to make dinner try our pot pie crust recipe.

    1. I haven’t done that but imagine it would work except the fruit on top would get browned

  1. Amazingly easy and delicious. I added kosher salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and butter extract. The extra ingredients didn’t make it any less of a speedy show stopper. Thanks!

  2. Wonder how this would work out for a “Pot-pie”? Chicken or beef “stew”, this poured over top of it and maybe float some refrigerated biscuits on top… gonna have to try!

  3. This looks fabulous. I will be making this recipe this week. BUT, just the two of use. Has anyone tried separating this into 2 baking dishes and freezing one? I am curious how this would freeze. Just may try it….

    1. Not sure it would freeze well. It is only half way full really in a pie plate, not as large as a full on pie so it really isn’t as much as you might expect.

  4. Have not made this, so cannot rate. But, wondering if/how this could be made in the 2-lid Ninja Foodi using bake function. How would temp and time differ?

    1. Hmmmm, if I were to venture a guess maybe use the bake function using the same temp and maybe check after 25 adding a few min each time after that. Havent tried that yet to advise so if you do it and find the best way to convert it to that machine before I do please let us know here!!
