Easy sloppy joe recipe 3 ingredients that is homemade. Your whole family will enjoy this comfort meal and I bet you never realized just how simple they were to make from scratch! Use just 3 basic ingredients for a tangy yet sweet meal!
Cook the ground beef or turkey (I buy whichever is on sale at the time) in a pan on the stove over medium high heat + diced onions until meat has very little pink remaining. Drain some of the drippings off to reduce the amount of liquid so your end mixture is nice and thick.
Adjust the heat to low and add the mustard, ketchup, and brown sugar. Mix well and taste as you go. You will want to add a bit more ketchup if you want it wetter, more mustard if you like it more tangy, or you can increase the brown sugar if you like yours sweeter.
Then allow to simmer in the pan over low heat once combined for 5 minutes, covered, to soak up all the juices and mixture so it's nice and yummy!
Turn heat off. Put on buns and serve. (or inside small tortillas for tacos is fun)

Variations
If you want to add diced bell peppers you will want to do this with the onions and meat in step 1. This will give them an opportunity to get tender. I typically will dice 1/2 fine but a whole one would be fine and give it even more texture to the dish when done.To make spicy you could swap out ground beef or spicy ground sausage, or for just a bit of heat use half and half of each. You could alternatively add 1/4 tsp of red pepper flakes instead to the meat mixture (adjust to your heat level desired).
