Pour beans into a large bowl, fill with water 3" above the beans and let it sit on your countertop for at least 1 hour. (if you skip this step add 30 min-1 hour longer on to cook time)
Drain that water and pour your soaked beans into your slow cooker. Pour in chicken broth (or water) and cover.
Cook on high heat for 4-6 hours until they are fork tender. Drain liquid, season and enjoy.
