Here is a great alternative to traditional gingerbread man activities for kids, and a great one for toddlers at Christmas!
If you are looking for an alternative to traditional gingerbread man activities for kids, here is a great way to allow kids to decorate a Christmas tree instead of purchasing an expensive store bought (and doesn’t come with many candies to decorate) gingerbread house. This activity is very versatile, inexpensive, and easier for little hands to decorate.
Most of the ingredients you probably have in your cupboards already.
You will need:
- 1 Pkg. Sugar cones
- Several bags of different candies (small candies)
- Vanilla frosting (could make own powdered sugar frosting)
- Cardstock or a few small pieces of cardboard (to use as bases)
I just used frosting to put on the edges of the cones in order to stick them to the paper. Cardboard from the xmas wrapping was used as cardstock for the bottoms, and I frosted the outside of the cone before giving them to my kids to stick the decorations on. Makes it less frustrating.
I honestly chose whatever was on sale in the candy dept. and was small enough to fit, though large enough for small fingers to grasp well.
I found some small candies in the Halloween candy that is still in a bin and used some of those too for some variations.
We have tried to create our own Christmas activities this year, such as the Homemade Advent Calendar we created which was a huge hit as well you can check out!
- And if you haven’t seen all the FREE movies offered on ABC Family this December the lineup for 2013 is below too…enjoy!!
