It’s about that time!! School is almost back in session and I am always thinking of ways to save money but make my kids happy in preparation for their new School year. Many items can be reused from last year including backpacks, folders and pencil boxes (maybe more).
I took the approach this year that with the # of backpacks we have around the house, we didn’t need to buy new ones this year (and wanted to see how well that would go over). Before I proposed the idea to my 3 girls I doused the backpacks with spray n wash and put them in the washer for a spin….wahhhlaaa, they came out great!! I put a little fabric softener in the wash too with a bit of detergent with stain fighter in it and hung them to dry. I honestly was surprised at how well they turned out.
Once they were done I asked which one they would like and they were totally happy with their “new” one (their sister’s) because honestly it was new to them and as I explained to them I would rather spend the $20 each on something fun we could do together rather than another bag when these were still in great shape…..they agreed. Next we conquered the shoes!
You can see up above in the top picture the scuffs and dirt on the left side that this sneaker had on the toe (and all around the white rubber sole). I ripped off a piece of Mr. Clean Magic Eraser (affiliate link), wet it and gave it to my daughter to scrub scrub away! Seriously, these things are amazing (got marker off my wooden desk too). This is not a sponsored post for them, they are just so fabulous I had to share & for less than $4 for the whole box & you only need 1/2 a sponge each…..they honestly look good as new.
Back to school doesn’t have to be a scary financial time. There are deals all over the place if you know where to look. I have many Back to School savings links here for clothing and supplies. Just reuse what you have, then shop sparingly for the items that are totally worn out.
